The Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic hereby confirms that it carried out unannounced inspections at the premises of several undertakings operating in the field of distribution and sale of cars.

The Office had justified suspicion that agreements restricting competition and/or concerted practice could occur between the importer and distributors of cars and commercial vehicles and/or distributors of these vehicles in-between each other. The Office considers that undertakings cooperated together for low-volume customers, large volume customers and/or public procurements with the intention of restricting competition. Their cooperation should mainly consist of:
  • agreements which directly or indirectly fix purchase or selling prices, respectively prices of goods, performances, works and services, including prices for low-volume customers and large volume customers,
  • exchange of sensitive information, in particular the exchange of information on prices, including prices for low-volume customers and large volume customers,
  • coordination of conduct or common procedures of undertakings concerned in connection with their participation and bidding in tenders and public procurements.

The fact that the Office conducted and carried out inspections does not imply that the entities concerned have infringed the competition rules, nor does it prejudge the conclusions of the investigation. The Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic does not provide further information at this stage of investigation.
