Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic (hereafter "the Office") in cooperation with the Office of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the Division of Legislation of Other Central State Administration Bodies, submitted the proposal of the Act on Protection of Competition and on the Amendments of Certain Acts to inter-ministry comment procedure, which was initiated on 19 October 2020.

The proposed act mainly transposes the Directive (EU) 2019/1 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2018 to empower the competition authorities of the Member States to be more effective enforcers and to ensure the proper functioning of the internal market.

The proposed changes also affect the area of merger control, and since the current Act on Protection of Competition has already been amended by several amendments, from the point of view of clarity of legal regulation, the Office seemed appropriate to submit the new proposal of the act to the legislative process. More detailed proposals and changes compared to the current legislation are included within a submission report and explanatory reports.

The end of the inter-ministry comment procedure on the proposal of the act is set for 6 November 2020.

The Office hereby invites the general public to engage in this discussion on the proposal of the Act on Protection of Competition.

The proposal of the act is available on the Slov-Lex portal https://www.slov-lex.sk/legislativne-procesy/SK/LP/2020/284, through which it is also possible to submit suggestions and comments.
