Rimavská Sobota was imposed a fine for advantaging an undertaking in the area of funeral and cemetery services

On 19 October 29 2014 the Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic, Division of Cartels issued a decision by which it imposed a fine on municipality of Rimavská Sobota in the amount of EUR 8 000 for the infringement of the Article 39 of the Act No. 136/2001 Coll. on Protection of Competition in its valid wording (hereafter referred to as „the Act“) referring to provision of cemetery and funeral services in the territory of the municipality of Rimavská Sobota by its subsidised organization Technické služby mesta Rimavská Sobota.
On the basis of collected evidence the Office concluded that the municipality of Rimavská Sobota restricted competition in the area of cemetery and funeral services in Rimavská Sobota both by dual method of charging services in its Price List of Cemetery and Funeral Services and by introducing „Fee for transportation of deceased – Other Firms“ in its Price List of Cemetery and Funeral Services, it means it apparently supported and advantaged certain undertaking.
Decision of the Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic is not valid.
Since it is a first-instance decision which could be appealed by the undertaking concerned, the Office does not provide any details on this decision.
